UPS Foundation Helps Ensure Children who are Deaf Can Learn to Listen and Speak

The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing recently announced a $75,000 grant from the UPS Foundation, which drives global corporate citizenship and philanthropic programs for UPS.

The grant will be used to help families with a child who is deaf find the resources they need for their child to learn to listen and speak. In particular, the support of the UPS Foundation will increase the Spanish-language content on AG Bell’s website (www.agbell.org). As AG Bell expands its reach into Spain, Argentina and other Spanish-speaking countries and communities, the support of the UPS Foundation will enable greater numbers of families and professionals find the research, information and support they need for their child’s language and literacy development.

“AG Bell is honored by the continued support of the UPS Foundation,” said Emilio Alonso-Mendoza, AG Bell CEO. “These funds will enable AG Bell to expand the reach and visibility of our website as we continue to advance listening and spoken language worldwide.”

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Ga., The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus area for giving: volunteerism, diversity, community safety and the environment.

In 2015, UPS and its employees, active and retired, invested more than $110 million in charitable giving around the world. The UPS Foundation can be found on the web at UPS.com/foundation. To get UPS news direct, visit pressroom.ups.com/RSS.

“The UPS Foundation is honored to support AG Bell in its efforts to expand the reach of the AG Bell website,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation and chief diversity and inclusion officer at UPS. “Our goal is to fund powerful programs that make a lasting difference to the global community.”
